In line with Shakey’s Corporate Social Responsibility to help promote environmental sustainability, the Road to Sustainability Campaign: 3Rs and Proper Waste Disposal Orientation was rolled-out last December 10 and 12, 2019 at the WOW Center. This is one of our green initiatives under Project Panda that aims to build a community that is educated and proactive when it comes to environmental awareness, to introduce a creative approach of encouraging people and raising awareness on the importance of proper waste management in the workplace, and to develop responsible employees who actively support the 3R campaign. There was a total of 142 CSO employees who attended the first round of orientation.
The participants were greeted by our Culture and Engagement Manager, Mr. Chester Briones, who gave everyone an overview and introduction to our 3R roadmap and future green initiatives that will be implemented in 2020. Moreover, in order to develop advocates and champions of environmental sustainability, it is important to first understand the importance of implementing various green initiatives such as proper waste management—this was discussed by our guest speakers from WWF, Ms. Jessica Ordoñez, Brand and Marketing Assistant, for the December 10, 2019 orientation, and from Greenpeace, Ms. Virginia Benosa-Llorin, Food and Ecological Agriculture Campaigner, for the December 12, 2019 orientation. Providing the participants with in-depth knowledge of the effects of plastic and waste to our environment and our own health.
After understanding the importance and effects of plastic and waste, Mr. Joemar Delos Reyes, our Building Manager, discussed the different types of plastic and how to further segregate plastic based on its reusability and recyclability. This was followed by the presentation of Ms. Mica Obon, Shared Services Admin Officer II, on our waste management initiative here at CSO wherein 3 trash bins will be placed in each floor for proper waste segregation.
Before the event officially ended, Mr. Chester Briones announced that plastic cups and straws will no longer be allowed within the premises of CSO starting December 15, 2019 in order to reduce our plastic consumption. To reinforce this initiative and encourage everyone to cut down on plastic, C&E has provided tumblers for everyone as well metal straws which were given to our monthly birthday celebrants from April to December.
In order to accommodate those who were not able to attend because of the busy month, C&E will be launching another run for the Road to Sustainability Campaign on January 2020. Educating more employees and developing more advocates of environmental sustainability.
